Donald Trump has been busy with his pardoning pen, issuing clemency and pardoning various convicted criminals seemingly at random and at will. Some of those people seem, at first glance, to be perhaps less deserving of such generosity than would be expected. But is there rhyme or reason to all this? Perhaps...

Why is Trump pardoning Rod Blagojevic? Why is he listening to Kim Kardashian about how should go free from prison? Why does he care at all about Conrad Black? At least those are non violent crimes. What about Arson? Murder? Would he pardon someone for those offences? (Yes, yes he would, and has.) Why stick his political neck out over sometimes decades old offences and why associate himself with the freedom of people guilty of crimes reviled by almost all of society? A lot of it has to do with people with direct lines to Trump, whether literally or via news media, influencing him to do so. But I do have another theory, less benign, and more worrisome...
